Rita, a child advocate and social worker runs the Pink House, offering sanctuary and guidance to the young girls of Medina, a deprived town nestled on the side of a near 3000 mile long Brazilian motorway. Raised without adequate support or protection, many young girls fall victim to a life of sexual exploitation, and violent crime.
In this cinematic and deeply haunting film, we see the daily battle the pink house staff face in keeping the girls safe and off the streets, all while fighting against antiquated attitudes towards women and young girls. In the Pink House, the girls can be free to be themselves, to dance and to learn to love their bodies. Together they courageously face the harsh realities of life, while retaining a tentative hope for a better future.
NFTS graduation film screened at the BFI.
