Despite spending more per head on healthcare than any other country, the USA has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the developed world. As presenter Nelufar Hedayat discovers, it’s black mothers who are disproportionately affected – being four times more likely to die in childbirth than white mothers. In New York City, that figure rises to an unbelievable 12 times more likely. Death By Delivery for Fusion TV and BBC World News, reveals that regardless of class, socio-economic status, education or location, the experience of being a black woman in America, seems to be the main cause for the disparity.
